SOTECo. is dedicated not only to provide our customers with an incredible product, but also to make a difference. SOTECo. donates a portion of its proceeds to several charities doing great things in Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

Corazon de Dahlia: SOTECo. became aware of Corazon de Dahlia as they were researching chocolate makers who use Peruvian cacao to make their chocolate. Corazon de Dahlia was started by Dahlia Graham, wife of Fruition Chocolate owner, Bryan Graham. Dahlia’s mission is to collaborate with Peruvian communities to facilitate sustainable, healthy development and provide educational opportunities to empower children and families. She opened the Center for the Promotion of Child & Family Development as a social and educational project, in which they develop skills and values through various outlets such as social development, cultural awareness, literacy proficiency, and mental health. They improve the quality of life for children, families, and the society at large in Cusco by offering tangible alternatives in order to advance their education through training, guidance, counseling, and support. SOTECo. supports their mission.
Sacred Valley Health: SVH was formed in early 2012 to improve health care access and equity in Peru’s Sacred Valley. With a dedicated staff and team of volunteers, SVH is recruiting and training community health workers (promotoras de salud) in the Ollantaytambo District to launch a frontline health worker program.

The remote indigenous communities surrounding Ollantaytambo are medically under-served for a variety of reasons. Rural communities lack access to primary medical care as a result of geographic isolation, poor road conditions, and irregular transportation. Poor socioeconomic conditions, malnutrition, lack of basic services, and poor education further worsen health outcomes. Rates of preventable illnesses are high, screening for common diseases is rare, and many diseases present late to medical attention, resulting in unacceptable rates of morbidity and mortality in these communities.

Salina de Maras is located in the center of the Sacred Valley and we are proud that the sale of this salt goes directly back to help the communities that desperately need it. This is what we are talking about when we say “Season with a Purpose.” You can donate directly here.

Ninos Foundation: SOTECo. Founder, Jason Kaplan, stayed at the Ninos Hotel when he visited Cusco and he couldn’t have found a more incredible hotel to stay. The staff was unbelievably friendly, serving hot coca tea as he arrived, but what truly makes the Ninos Hotel special is their mission and support of  the neglected children of Cusco.

Jolanda ven den Berg started the Ninos Foundation with it’s mission to create a better life and a better future for as many chanceless and neglected children in and around Cusco as possible.  Her starting motto: “if I can only help one” has remained a stimulus. In the meantime she helps more than 600 children per day and the number is still growing. The Ninos project has become an institution in Cusco and Jolanda is still the driving force. In addition to those 600 kids she has also helped 80 Peruvians to get a job. These people are necessary to keep the ever increasing organization on the road. They, in turn, are able to  support their families so that 80 can easily be multiplied by 5. At the moment a total of 1000 people benefit from the fact that Jolanda ever took the courageous step  to leave for Cusco.
